The last time I saw Calum, he was eight days old. Now he’s nearing eight months! I love getting to follow babies through their first year; they change SO much. I didn’t expect Calum to look anything like he did at our first session, but when his Mama pulled him out of the car, I was shocked to see that same sweet boy…only much bigger. I could have picked Calum out of a lineup of a hundred babies.
The goal for today was to capture Calum in the prime of his babyhood, which in my opinion is anytime after a baby learns to sit until he starts to crawl. I adore that captive subject. Babies at this age are so happy and expressive and sweet and cuddly. (Can you tell I’m waxing nostalgic? It’s because Wally started crawling this week.) This is definitely the age for photos. Need convincing? Take a look at Calum!
Jenn and Grady have an amazing park near their home where they spend a lot of time. I was in heaven, and I can’t wait to see it in the summer for Calum’s one year session. This morning, even with the clouds and threat of rain, it was bright with new leaves and smooth water.
Love the drool.

Wonderment. I think he’s actually looking at the toy being shaken above my head, but I like the effect.

Adoring parents.

Kisses from Mama. Is Calum kissing back?

Another family shot. The wind adds some spontaneity.

I keep coming back to this image of Calum and Grady. So much is being said in Calum’s raised eyebrows and Grady’s calm expression. Am I ok, Daddy? Sure, you are son. I’m here.

Beautiful spring colors. For you photographers out there, I opened up my 50mm to 1.2 for this. Love the smoothness and the teeny tiny depth of field.

Just before naptime we got some great smiles. Blue, blue eyes and one happy boy.

Mama played with his toes to get that smile.

A great shot of Calum’s fluffy hair and yet-to-come-in front teeth.

On our walk back to the car, Calum fell fast asleep, and I couldn’t resist.

Such a wonderful morning! The rain (for the most part) held off, I got to shoot in a fabulous new location, and I got to reconnect with Jenn, Grady, and Calum. I love seeing newborn clients grow — both the baby and the parents! August will be here before we know it, and I’m really looking forward to seeing these three again.
