Wyatt’s Birth Day {Seattle Birth Photography}

Fellow photographer, Heather, gave birth to her beautiful son, Wyatt, at 4:01 this morning. She labored through the night, handling each contraction as it came, and supported by her husband, Brandon, and her mother. Wyatt entered this world in the hands of his father and hardly made any noise as he laid on Heather’s chest. Almost immediately he opened his eyes and was content to lay with his mother and look around in wonder. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a newborn that alert that early on. They say that shortly after birth babies enter an alert phase and that it is critical for babies to be with their parents to bond during that time. What a privilege to be allowed to capture those first moments! After snuggling with mama and being cuddled by daddy for a while, Wyatt weighed in at seven pounds one ounce and is twenty inches long.

Here is Wyatt as he is first laid on his mother’s chest.

And very soon after birth, you see his open eyes. I loved watching him listen to his parents voices. You could see that they were familiar to him.

Look at that eye contact! This little guy is going to make a great model for his mama.

After an hour or so of bonding and learning to nurse, Wyatt had his first bath. Brandon is brushing baby’s light brown hair.

And finally, Heather, Brandon, and Wyatt together again. Big sister, Mattea, was still sleeping but got to meet her little brother later that morning.

Congratulations, Heather and Brandon, on the natural birth of your second child. You made a great team, and I was honored to be there. I can’t wait to see all the photos Heather will take!
