Chaos.

We watched the Groesbeck kids this evening, and feel pretty proud to say it all went well. The playroom is a lifesaver, especially when I’m trying to get Ephraim to sleep in the living room. The four older kids played in the playroom for almost the entire time. I love seeing Wally and Peter play together. It makes me miss those days when Peter was still a baby and Wally was a new toddler and I’d have them together while the girls went to school.

Imagination

Both Abby and Wally have no shortage of imagination. Today, they broke into the Costco case of paper towels and played all kinds of things with them. My favorite was when they were logs in the campfire. This line-up was Wally’s motorcycle.

Blue C.

Trevor had a party to go to after work, so the kids and I were on our own for dinner and bedtime. I decided that was cause for dinner OUT, so we packed ourselves up and went to Blue C Sushi. Abby was ecstatic. She’s always begging to eat IN a restaurant (as opposed to getting take-out like we often do). I love mixing things up once in a while.

Os.

We are giving O cereal another chance. The kids pour their own milk, and so far, they seem to be making much less of a mess with it than they used to.

Laura books.

Every night, Trev and Abby read another chapter in the “Laura books.” Laura is growing up and falling in love with Almonzo already. Abby didn’t really appreciate me interrupting their reading time.

Dishes.

While I was at a preschool meeting, Trev and the kids cleaned up our disastrous house. Apparently both Abby and Wally love to do dishes (though it doesn’t really look like it in this shot). Good thing there were LOTS for them to do.

Paddleboat.

After our run/walk at Greenlake this morning, we decided to take the kids out on a paddleboat. Trev and Wally sat in the back and Abby and I sat up front. They loved it! Wally manned the tiller.

Ropes.

We took the kids to Hickman Park this afternoon for some bike/scooter-riding and play at the playground. Abby immediately found a friend her age to pal around with. Wally decided to try this ropes course. I imagine the boots made it tough.

Hole.

It was a gorgeous day, but sadly, we spent most of it indoors while I worked on some preschool business. We managed to get outside for a tiny bit before Trevor got home. I have sure missed those days of afternoon sun shining through our trees. Abby decided to excavate the hole we stick our festive pole in for our summer party. She seemed to get a lot of satisfaction out of each shovel-ful of dirt, but none more than when she found a worm in her hole.

Frost.

Still feeling miserable, but we had an errand to do that forced us to get out of the house this morning. I decided to make the best of it, and after our errand, we headed up to Mill Creek to try out Frost Donuts. Yummy. Afterward we picked up the Anne of Green Gables DVDs from my mom and went home and cuddled on the couch. Sorry, that was the extent of my energy today.

Tail feathers.

The chicks are growing SO fast. They’ve got wing feathers and tail feathers and can hop out of the box if the lid isn’t on. This evening we got Laura out so she and Wally can play. She had better get used to him, because he is in LOVE.

Couch to 5K.

Today Trevor and I embarked on a program to get us from our currently unfit state to running a 5K. It seems doable. Three days a week, the same workout for the whole week, starting with running for a minute and walking for ninety seconds, alternating until we’ve completed twenty minutes. I miss running, and haven’t been this out of shape…ever, so I’m hoping we can make this work. If we do stick with it for more than a couple of weeks, I promise I will get Trevor some decent shoes.
{Edited to add: BIG mistake. That night I was up for several hours hacking. Apparently I wasn’t anywhere near over that cold. Ahh, hindsight.}

Snuggles.

Abby and I snuggled in bed during Wally’s nap this afternoon, which was great because I don’t have much voice at the moment.

Sensitive.

Wally has been having a love-hate relationship with his steamed milks lately. Even though we get them at a relatively cool 110 degrees, as soon as he touches the cup he insists that it’s HOT and he throws a bit of a fit. He knows he can just wait for it to cool down, but that is NO consolation. Here you can see the remainder of his grief in the tear on his cheek as he finally sucks down his tepid drink.
